DISTRICT GROWTH

Lexington ISD is projected to grow by almost 600 students, or approximately 50%, by the 2031-2032 school year.

FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY

Functional capacity refers to the capability of a school facility to adequately accommodate its intended educational activities and programs while ensuring the safety and well-being of its occupants. Functional capacity is 85% of maximum at the elementary and 75% of maximum at the middle and high schools.

MAXIMUM CAPACITY

Texas schools are required to adhere to specific guidelines by the Texas Education Agency related to factors such as classroom size, student-to-teacher ratios, and the number of students that can be accommodated in a given school building.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Elementary School has already exceeded its functional capacity, requiring portable buildings, and will exceed the TEA maximum capacity by next school year. If approved, the additions and renovations proposed in the bond would create enough additional capacity to keep the campus from reaching maximum capacity until after the 2031/32 school year.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Middle School is projected to exceed its functional capacity by the 2027/28 school year and will exceed the TEA maximum capacity by the 2029/30 school year. If approved, the additions and renovations proposed in the bond would create enough additional capacity to keep the campus from reaching its functional capacity until 2030/31 and maximum capacity until well after the 2031/32 school year.

HIGH SCHOOL

Although the high school is currently projected to not reach its functional capacity until the 2031/32 school year, curriculum and program offerings are driving the demand for additional classrooms. If approved, the additions at the high school would accommodate two more science classrooms/labs, two special education classrooms, and two additional core classrooms.
